Atheism Quote YouTube

I like the presentation format of this YouTube but disagree with many of the quotes. Hemingway's "All thinking men are atheists" is demonstrably false and arrogant. My favorite is probably Amanda Bloom's "An idea does not gain truth as it gains followers."

Googly ad

Here is the google ad that popped up when I came here today.

Are You A Real Atheist ?
Or Are You Just Pretending ? Test If You Have The God Gene
Mary.com

Can't help but laugh at that one.

HAT TIP for that

a riot. The God gene. It's like the gay gene, only less well-decorated and sings off key in the Sunday choir.

Just a few thoughts

I think believers go to church because it is part of their faith and for some they look at it as necessary to absolve in their minds the sins they have committed during the week, or between the major religious holidays. I myself do not go to church as I don’t think it necessary. Plus I don't need to see the entertainment that churches have become in this country.
As to how ell I am doing, not so good. The Christian nut job I was working for terminated my contract without notice and I am now seeking employment. If being broke doesn't count I am well.
I still hold to my theory about unbelievers. Not that it applies to all but to many. If you don't believe in something why should it bother you and why must you go to great lengths to prove yourself right. Kind of like "case law" I guess.
Have you ever tried Black Currant jam?

Sorry to hear of aggravations

I have tried black currant jam, though it's been a while. It's kind of like lingonberry, but sweeter, if I remember correctly.

Sorry to hear of job aggravations, sympathize.

Hi, David

Nice to hear from you, David - hope you are well. Indeed, the fact that "you" (I, Joe Blow, 10 million Joe Blows, etc.) say something is true does not make it true; that is the core point of a significant number of the quotes including my favorite one noted from Bloom, i.e. that the popularity of theism is not relevant to its proof.

I am aware of your oft-mentioned thesis that some non[un]believers "need" positive reinforcement "constantly" that they are right. I do not see how this collection of quotes in itself supports that thesis or intention specifically, though you are certainly entitled to your hypothesis. If anything, your first point (smugness by atheists) is undercut somewhat by the second (lack of atheist intellectual self-confidence), though there can certainly be both sorts in the pool. I do know that many Christians attend weekly (or more often) reinforcement sessions of various styles in often beautiful buildings - sometimes architectural masterpieces - with many dozens, hundreds or occasionally thousands of their co-religionists, and in such sessions they are exhorted (sometimes eloquently) to maintain their beliefs and practices. Atheists don't do that. Atheists and agnostics are about 10-12% of the population (the 15% percent number I sometimes read is probably a little high) but you find a whole lot more synagogues for Jews or mosques for Muslims at 1-2% each of the population than atheist community centers or the like. I think there's only one atheist community center in the whole country that actually has a permanent physical location - in Portland appropriately enough, the Pacific NW being the most atheist part of the country.

As for me today, I was buying bagels and preparing breakfast for my mother and family, immoral decadent infidel that I am. And decadent th breakfast was; the marmalade went nicely with the bagels and apple sausage and pancakes, and we ate like the heathens we were.

Many of the quotes are from

Many of the quotes are from people who think they are superior to believers which just goes to show the arrogance of people who think they are the only intelligent people around. I even read that some believe they have evolved further than us believers.
This video appears to be trying to bolster the minds of those unbelievers that need positive reinforcement constantly that they are right and there is no God. Just because you say it is true does not make it true.
I also have to wonder why the quotes were up so long. Can't atheists read faster?
