Zuzu, recently of Feministe and now of Kindly Póg Mo Thóin (Gaelic for "Kiss My A**"), claims that Senator Barack Obama is a politician, and cites evidence to prove her thesis. The "you" of "Obama's just not that into you" is, more or less, the more enthusiastic sector of the liberal blogosphere, particularly at Daily Kos, where Hillary Clinton can barely find a public supporter at this point.
From Zuzu:
Still, I’m glad to see that some of these guys are beginning to come to their senses. Hear-no-evil, See-no-evil and Speak-no-evil is not the way to handle legitimate criticism of your candidate, nor is attacking anyone who dares to criticize as out of touch, old, ... a racist, what have you. Candidates *must* be evaluated on their merits, and you can’t evaluate someone on their merits if any and all criticism is greeted with, “LALALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU, YOU OLD BITTER RACIST [deleted]!!!!
While I voted for Obama and hope he prevails, we should remember that we are hiring someone to get a job done. Like all candidates, Obama is flawed. Are his flaws manageable? I think so. His job, if elected, is not to be all that Bush wasn't, or to usher in some liberal messianic age. I don't believe in messiahs but if messiahs exist, they don't come from elections. Obama starts off with two strikes against him because he wants the job; in my mind, anyone who would take a pay cut to live in a small, well-maintained federal prison for four years (which is effectively what any winning presidential candidate does by winning, leaving law office and lobbying money on the table) should be disqualified from the office on the grounds that if he cannot protect his own interest, he cannot protect ours. Of course, Hillary and McCain have the same two strikes against them. I suspect that it is this character fflaw - wanting the job - that makes the rest of the character flaws both inevitable and damaging.
